MONTH OF ABSENCE- Metroids

HOLY SHIT. I finished most of my plans for the last month, gamewise. Firstly and most importantly, Dog Adventure's made the first significant progress in about 3 months. The long hiatus I took for school ended for a month. of course now I'm back in school, and it's only a matter of time before I go back to being lazy and only doing the work that's required of me. That said, I really like the new Dog Adventure material and I think you will too, guy who isn't reading this.

Anyway, my classic video game missions that I started last November or so have made tremendous strides also. I started playing Metroid 2 immediately after Metroid 1, but it's just.. not very good. I remember getting it at Circuit City when I was like 5 or 6, after playing Super Metroid, expecting it to be just as awesome (Because I was a fucking moron who thought Game Boy games could be as sophisticated as Super Metroid). Anyway, that fell through HARDCORE DUDES. I didn't like it then, and I honestly don't like it that much now. I remember a period in like 7th grade when I tried to play it again and actually got reasonably far (I think), but now it's 8-9 years later and that fire has died. Or something.

However, After I played Metroid 2 for like an hour, I got really curious as to how the remake of Metroid 1 turned out. Turns out, Metroid: Zero Mission is awesome. It gives you a little more direction than Super Metroid, and a shitload more than Metroid 1, but I don't really think that's a problem. Yeah, there's less of the exploration aspect, but it's definitely still there, and there are a hell of secret items n'shit to find. It definitely has more of a Super Metroid feel to it than Metroid, thanks to the map and menu and all that shit. The whole thing's capped off with an awesome Metal Gear Solid-esque segment where you're sneaking around in Samus' Zero Suit, which makes her a worthless pile of garbage. Eventually you find your suit and all your gear, and you're all NOW WHAT YOU MOTHER FUCKERS and go around wrecking shit on the Space Pirate Ship. Fun game.

Straight after that, I went on to Metroid Fusion. Fusion is the direct sequel to Super Metroid, and it shows. It's been a month since I played it, about, but I definitely remember getting way more of a Super Metroid vibe off it than I did from Zero Mission. You know what else it reminded me of? Resident Evil. I suppose part of it's the fact that the game takes place in a closed-off lab where everything went nuts. The music's a lot more ambient than Zero Mission. Again, a lot like Super Metroid and Resident Evil. Woaaah. Lastly, the whole game you're being stalked by a clone of Samus from Super Metroid. The clone's way stronger than you and you're better off running from it than letting it kick your ass, not unlike Mr. X or Nemesis from the RE series. The cool thing is that the clone Samus uses the same Screw Attack animation from Super Metroid, whereas the real Samus uses a new one. I also think clone Samus uses the Spazer/Freeze beam from Super Metroid, but like I said it's been a month, so I don't actually remember.

Anyway, I got a WHOOOOLE LOAD of shit to say about Castlevania next time, but I'll leave this one on a Metroid-only note. And Dog Adventure.
